NREL-NARUC Listening Session on State-Tribal Collaboration

Friday, August 8, 2025 | 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET| Zoom Link

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is working with DOE’s Office of Policy to support state-tribal collaboration on energy projects. Many tribes are crafting strategic energy plans, developing renewable energy projects (particularly solar), and moving toward energy sovereignty. NREL’s work will identify barriers from the perspective of state energy offices, PUCs, and tribes, and develop resources to overcome these barriers.

As NREL begins this work, it will be helpful to understand the experiences PUCs have had interacting with tribes. NREL will give a short presentation about their work and what we have learned so far followed by a Q&A/open discussion with attendees. This listening session with NARUC members will allow NREL to hear directly from regulators about state-tribal issues they have encountered, what successful collaboration might look like, and what resources are needed to support improved success.

This listening session is open only to NARUC's public utility commission membership. Both commissioners and staff are welcome.
