The electric distribution grid forms the backbone of electricity service delivery for customers of all types. In every state with investor-owned utilities, the state utility regulator is charged with critical oversight of the safety, reliability, and resilience of distribution utilities that deliver the power people and communities rely on. Modern commission roles often include weighing in on distribution planning, grid modernization, valuation and compensation of distributed energy resources, and programs to support newer technologies like storage and microgrids.
NARUC provides commissions with timely and relevant resources and activities (available through the webpages at left) including reports, technical papers, and trainings aimed at supporting utility regulators as they navigate these challenges. These efforts are coordinated with NARUC’s Committee on Electricity and Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment.
