This article identifies the challenges public utility commissions (PUCs) face in recruiting and retaining a well-rounded workforce. This includes lengthy hiring processes, stiff competition within the labor market, and the upcoming retirement of experienced personnel that leads to a loss of vital institutional knowledge. It underscores that low awareness among potential candidates about the dynamic, impactful work of PUCs further compounds these workforce issues. To address this, NARUC has launched the “Day in the Life” video campaign showcasing PUC roles and the important regulatory work they do, aimed at engaging younger and more diverse talent to help sustain PUC operations into the future.
