Europe and Eurasia: Georgia

Regulatory and Technical Review

Date: November/December 2015
Location: Tbilisi, Georgia

With the support of the US Agency for International Development, NARUC experts sought to address a range of issues in line with goals to assist the Georgia National Energy and Water Regulatory Commission in strengthening its institutional and technical capacities and further aligning with European processes.

This activity resulted in short-term concrete steps forward for Georgia to further integrate its power sector and increase cross-border trade with Turkey and to make progress on long-term issues related to integration with European markets. The peer review of dispute settlement procedures aimed to assist GNERC in alleviating the heavy burden of disputes at the Commission and a day-long focus on net metering provided support to GNERC as it finalized and sought to defend net metering provisions in public hearings before Parliament.
