Asia: Lower Mekong

Third Lower Mekong Regional Regulatory Workshop

Dates: November 3-5, 2015
Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

With the support of the U.S. Department of State, NARUC’s third Lower Mekong Regional Regulatory Workshop focused on climate change and clean energy development, within the larger context of cross-border trade and regional market development. As a result of a NARUC recommendation, Lower Mekong regulators are engaged through the ASEAN Energy Regulators Network (AERN) in the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) project, which was previously led by utilities. Involvement by regulators will allow for the development of broader framework guidelines to support cross-border trade and drive the APG process forward.

NARUC’s regional regulatory workshop supported the Energy Pillar of the Lower Mekong Initiative, providing a platform for national energy regulators and those performing regulatory functions to better coordinate on energy regulatory issues in order to facilitate cross-border trade and regional market development, spur clean energy development, and enhance energy security.
