In a Regional First, Bosnia Launches Electricity Price Comparison Tool

February 2019 – For the first time, household consumers and small businesses in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) can compare electricity prices and shop around for the best deal.

Through support from the U.S. Agency for International Development, NARUC, and the USAID Energy Investment Activity, regulators from BiH launched an online electricity price comparison tool in December 2018. This tool will help customers better understand the electricity sector and, more importantly, save money on their electricity bills.

See more about the tool on USAID's website.

NARUC has supported BiH regulators in adopting retail choice frameworks since 2016, with the goal to help electricity markets in BiH and throughout Southeast Europe become more competitive. In doing so, NARUC utilized the experience and knowledge of two of the most advanced states in retail electricity markets -- Ohio and Pennsylvania -- on how to educate consumers and facilitate the market.

Thank you to USAID and our partners at USAID Energy Investment Activity for their support for this project, and to our member regulators for their time and expertise. As this work continues, NARUC looks forward to continue sharing lessons learned and best practices with our colleagues abroad.
