WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners issued the following statement today in recognition of National Lifeline Awareness Week 2015:
“Since 2009, NARUC and its colleagues at the Federal Communications Commission and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates have recognized the first week after Labor Day as Lifeline Awareness Week. Our efforts, and those of our member State Commissions, are helping eligible consumers participate in this vital program. NARUC joins its member State utility commissions in promoting the value and importance of this telephone program through public events and public-service announcements that provide details about the Lifeline program and how qualified citizens can participate. The Lifeline program connects qualified individuals with family, friends, potential employers, and lifesaving emergency services. NARUC supports the stringent federal and State eligibility rules that are in place to ensure that the program benefits only those who qualify. We applaud the efforts from our members, the FCC, and the nation’s consumer advocates for their work and thank them for their support.”
