NARUC President Edgar Endorses Commissioner Wise’s Pipeline Testimony

WASHINGTON—On Tuesday, July 14, 2015, Commissioner Stan Wise, of Georgia testified before the before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Energy and Power hearing entitled “Oversight of Pipeline Safety, Regulatory Certainty and Job Creation Act of 2011 and Related Issues,” representing the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and his home state of Georgia. His testimony focused on ten proposed amendments to the Act aimed at creating more efficiencies and allowing greater safety enforcement by state regulators.

In support of his testimony, NARUC President Lisa Edgar offered the following remarks:

“On behalf of NARUC, I would like to thank Commissioner Wise for his testimony. The matter of pipeline safety is a priority issue for NARUC; therefore, our proposal addresses critical matters of prevention and oversight. Collectively, these proposals demonstrate a proactive approach to this issue, based on informed analyses of what is needed most to create improved, safer systems. The package of amendments presented on our behalf by Commissioner Wise represents the interests of our member states and their citizens.

Our goal is to improve our nation’s natural gas delivery system. Regulators play a critical role in ensuring natural gas pipeline safety, which cannot be overlooked or underestimated. Our sound, reasoned approaches and the collective experience of our member States should be a credible part of the conversations that influence the decisions affecting our States.”
