WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) has issued the following statement in response to the launch of the new NG911 NOW Coalition.

The NG911 NOW Coalition brings heightened awareness of the need for accelerated deployment of lifesaving next-generation emergency 911 services. The cost of upgrading thousands of public safety answering points nationwide is daunting. Therefore, NARUC has officially called for federal funding to State and local governments to speed the rollout of next-generation services to emergency call centers across the nation. To reach our shared goal of ubiquitous NG 911 availability requires that all levels of government work together collaboratively.  We are still examining the Coalition’s announcement and look forward to working with them where synergies exist.

—NARUC President Travis Kavulla of Montana

—Committee on Telecommunications Chair Chris Nelson of South Dakota
