NARUC Transitions to a New President as Connecticut’s Betkoski Takes the Helm

WASHINGTON—John Betkoski III, a Connecticut regulator, has moved into the role of president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. President Betkoski formerly served as NARUC’s first vice president and is the vice chairman of the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.

The transition comes as a result of NARUC’s former president, Robert F. Powelson’s move to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

“I look forward to continuing the vision for this year established by Past President Powelson,” said Betkoski. “There is still much to be said about issues of innovation, infrastructure and investment. NARUC’s leadership remains focused on advocating for state regulators.”

“It has been my very sincere honor to serve as a state regulator and help lead NARUC,” said Commissioner Powelson. “I thank my colleagues—our members—for their collegiality, support and professionalism. State commissioners and their staffs have one of the most challenging jobs in our country, with few accolades. I look forward to us all, collectively, continuing to serve the public interest.”

Betkoski will serve a complete term when he is formally installed as president in November at NARUC’s Annual Meeting and Educational Conference in Baltimore, at which time he will announce his vision and theme for the association.  Wisconsin Public Service Commission Chair Ellen Nowak moves up from her current leadership position as second vice president and will also be formally installed as first vice president in Baltimore. The second vice president position will remain vacant until a successor is installed at the same meeting.
