Description:
This course aims to provide a thorough introduction to the most important economic issues surrounding the creation and successful operation of electricity markets, and the challages raised by the decarbonization of the energy sector and recent innovations. Topics discussed include an explanation of relevant economic concepts, the characterisation of competitive and oligopolistic markets, the design of wholesale and retail markets, investment and security of supply, the role of the electricity network in a competitive environment, and integration of renewable energy resources and new technologies.
