As utilities across the country seek to increase grid reliability and resilience in the context of decarbonization goals, there is growing interest in connected aggregations of distributed energy resources (DERs) – a.k.a. virtual power plants (VPPs) – to support integration of renewable energy and demand flexibility. NARUC’s Regulators’ Financial Toolbox Webinar on Virtual Power Plants will feature speakers with utility, operator, and regulator experience. Panelists will address common definitions of VPPs; current VPP technologies and examples; utility risks and benefits related to VPPs; and regulatory considerations, such as compensation and cost recovery.
