RTI - Energy Equity: A Primer

Energy Equity:  A Primer

SPECIAL DATE AND TIME:  June 5, 6, and 7, 2024, 2:00 – 4:00 PM Daily via Zoom

Energy Equity: A Primer will give students the chance to explore how state public utility commissions can include energy equity in their decision-making process. This 6 hour, 3 day course will review the historical and cumulative burdens of energy system siting and operation borne by frontline and low-income communities. Taught by Montina Cole, the first FERC Senior Counsel for Environmental Justice and Equity, and Professors Sanya Carly, Gabriel Chan, and Shelley Welton, this course will address the definition of energy equity and explore new opportunities to create more resilient communities and widespread economic prosperity. Many communities have been underserved by energy efficiency and other clean energy investments. Advancing equity in energy can ensure that communities can benefit from the energy transition including access to renewable energy technologies, energy efficient housing, and electrification transportation.
