On 8/11, NARUC President Reminds Consumers to Call Before You Dig

WASHINGTON—National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners President Colette D. Honorable of Arkansas issued the following statement in recognition of Aug. 11 as National 811 Day:

“Today is a great reminder that utility safety is everyone’s responsibility. Calling the 811 one-call center a few days before doing any digging or excavation work can save lives. Accidentally striking an underground electricity wire, cable, or gas pipeline not only can cause inconvenience and embarrassment, it can also result in an injury or worse. Not only that, it is also the law. Pipeline safety is everyone’s responsibility—know what’s below.”
