States Commend Joint-Board Referral on Universal Service Reform Plan

WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners issued the following statement in support of the Federal Communications Commission’s decision to seek recommendations from the Federal-State Joint Board on Universal Service on how the FCC should modify the universal service contribution methodology:

“This is great news from the Federal Communications Commission. We asked that the FCC refer this important issue to the Federal-State Joint Board on Universal Service because these are exactly the kinds of decisions Congress had in mind when it created the Joint Board in the first place. The Joint Board process ensures that the agency will receive expert recommendations from the States officials closest to the consumers affected by changes to the Universal Service program. We look forward to working with the Board and the FCC as this process continues.”
--NARUC Committee on Telecommunications Chair Chris Nelson of South Dakota
