As Safe Digging Month Begins, NARUC's Honorable Focuses on Outreach

WASHINGTON—National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners President Colette D. Honorable of Arkansas issued the following statement in recognition of April as National Safe Digging Month:

“I am proud to join my State, federal, and industry colleagues in supporting National Safe Digging Month. There is nothing more important to State regulators than the safe, reliable, and affordable operation of our nation’s utility system. It cannot be said strongly enough: Utility safety is everyone’s responsibility. Every one of us—policymakers, regulators, industry groups, advocates—must do all we can to promote our nation’s One-Call services. Calling 811 a few days before digging can save lives. NARUC members all over the country are using public outreach, social media, and much more to help spread the word, and I thank them for their service. But we need to do more. National Safe Digging Month is just the start.

“Utility safety is my core focus as NARUC President. Our Association has equipped our members to lead on this issue for the last 125 years. This work will continue into the next century because as regulators, utility safety remains Job No. 1.”
--NARUC President Colette D. Honorable of Arkansas
