NARUC Members Express Support for Lifeline Awareness Week

WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners issued the following statement today in recognition of National Lifeline Awareness Week 2013:

“This week, State utility commissions around the country are promoting the value and importance of the Lifeline telephone program. In partnership with the Federal Communications Commission and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates, NARUC members will hold public events and issue public-service announcements providing details about the program and how qualified citizens can participate. The Lifeline program connects qualified individuals with family, friends, potential employers, and lifesaving emergency services. Given our national investment in Lifeline, we must make sure the program benefits only those who qualify, and that Lifeline providers comply with strict federal and State eligibility rules. We applaud the efforts from our members, the FCC, and the nation’s consumer advocates for their work and thank them for their support.”
--NARUC President Philip Jones of Washington, NARUC Committee on Consumer Affairs Chair Betsy Wergin of Minnesota
