Dig Safely! NARUC President Urges Consumers to Call 811

WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners issued the following statement in recognition of April as National Safe Digging Month:

“We are pleased to join our colleagues and federal partners today in recognizing April as National Safe Digging Month. As the weather gets warm and we spend more time outdoors, please remember to call 811 before doing any digging in your yard. Doing so can prevent serious accidents that can result in disruption of utility service or serious injury. State commissions are proud to work with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration in promoting pipeline safety measures and the 811 One Call Service. Our members all over the country are using public outreach, social media, and much more to help spread the word. Please take the time and make this important phone call. Safe digging protects you, your property, and your neighborhood.”
--NARUC President Philip Jones of Washington
