Air Quality, Spectrum, Nuclear Waste Top NARUC Winter Meetings Agenda

WASHINGTON—Federal policymakers, congressional staff, and top industry officials will address the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners’ Winter Committee Meetings in Washington. The Feb. 5-8 Meetings, along with the Feb. 8-9 National Electricity Forum, will be held at the Renaissance Washington Hotel.

Featured speakers at the meetings include Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu (Wednesday, Feb. 8), IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates Chair and renowned author Daniel Yergin (Tuesday, Feb. 7), National Cable and Telecommunications Association President and CEO Michael Powell (Monday, Feb. 6), and many more.

In addition, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Assistant Administrator of Air and Radiation Gina McCarthy is scheduled to address the first meeting of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission-NARUC Forum on Reliability and the Environment on Tuesday, Feb. 7, along with FERC Commissioners Cheryl LaFleur and Philip Moeller. Other participants in this discussion include representatives from the Energy Department, regional transmission organizations, and electric utilities.

FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff will co-chair the FERC-NARUC Collaborative on Smart Response on Sunday, Feb. 5.

On the telecommunications side, topics of discussion will include: spectrum, the Federal Communications Commission’s Universal Service/Intercarrier Compensation reform order, prospects for congressional action, and much more.

Speakers at the National Electricity Forum—a joint meeting sponsored by NARUC and the Department of Energy—will include Secretary Chu, Dominion Chairman, President, and CEO Thomas Farrell, Edison International Chairman, President and CEO Theodore F. Craver, Jr., NRG President and CEO David Crane, and PSEG Group Chairman, President, and CEO Dr. Ralph Izzo. More information about the National Electricity Forum can be found online.
