NARUC Offers Support for Rep. Matsui's Lifeline Proclamation

WASHINGTON—The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners issued the following statement in support of Rep. Doris Matsui’s resolution recognizing Lifeline Awareness Week:

“On behalf of NARUC, we thank Rep. Matsui for introducing this resolution, and Rep. Markey for co-sponsoring it. By bringing this issue to Congress’ attention, Reps. Matsui and Markey are doing a major service for all consumers over the country. The Lifeline and Link-Up telephone assistance programs are woefully undersubscribed. Lifeline Awareness Week is an effort to bring attention to these crucial programs and ensure that as many Americans are connected as possible. This resolution gives Lifeline Awareness Week national prominence, validating the hard work of NARUC members and our State and federal partners. We hope Congress will act soon on their request.”
--NARUC President David Coen of Vermont
